Drywall Calculator
Sheets of drywall and the screws to fix them — wall area in, sheets and screws out.
Sheets needed
How it works
Sheets = ceil(wall area ÷ area per sheet) Screws = sheets × screws per sheet Example: ceil(40 ÷ 2.88) = 14 sheets
Worked example: a 40 m² wall with standard 1.2 m × 2.4 m sheets (2.88 m² each) needs ceil(40 ÷ 2.88) = 14 sheets, and at 32 screws per sheet that is 14 × 32 = 448 screws.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a standard sheet?
A common sheet is 1.2 m × 2.4 m, which is 2.88 m². If your sheets differ, change the area-per-sheet figure to match.
Do ceilings count the same way?
Yes. Measure the ceiling area just like a wall and enter it in the same box.
Does this include joint compound?
No. Joint compound depends on the number of joints and coats, so it is left out rather than guessed.
Why 32 screws per sheet?
It is a common working figure for a 1.2 m × 2.4 m sheet. Change it if your fixing pattern uses more or fewer.
