Paver Calculator
Pavers for a patio, plus base gravel and bedding sand — area and paver size in, quantities out.
Pavers needed
How it works
Paver area = length × width (in metres) Pavers = ceil(area ÷ paver area × 1.05) Base = area × 0.10 m, Sand = area × 0.03 m
Worked example: a 20 m² patio with 20 cm × 20 cm pavers (0.04 m² each) needs ceil(20 ÷ 0.04 × 1.05) = 525 pavers, plus 20 × 0.10 = 2 m³ of base gravel and 20 × 0.03 = 0.6 m³ of bedding sand.
Frequently asked questions
Why 100 mm of base and 30 mm of sand?
Those are typical depths for a foot-traffic patio. A driveway carrying cars needs a deeper base — check local guidance before ordering.
Does this include jointing sand?
No. Jointing sand is brushed into the gaps after laying and is a small extra amount on top of the bedding sand.
What if my pavers are rectangular?
Enter the length and width separately. The calculator uses their product, so any rectangle works, not just squares.
Why 5% extra?
Pavers are cut at edges and around curves, and a few break. Five percent covers a simple patio; a curved or diagonal pattern needs more.
