Grade Calculator

Weighted overall grade from assignment scores and weights.

A line with no weight counts as weight 1. Weights need not add up to 100.

Weighted grade

How it works

Grade = (score₁ × weight₁ + score₂ × weight₂ + …) ÷ (weight₁ + weight₂ + …)
Letter: 90+ A, 80+ B, 70+ C, 60+ D, below 60 F

Worked example: scores 85 (weight 30), 90 (weight 40) and 78 (weight 30) give (85×30 + 90×40 + 78×30) ÷ 100 = 8,490 ÷ 100 = 84.90%, which is a B.

Frequently asked questions

What if my weights do not add up to 100?

It still works. The formula divides by the total weight you entered, so weights of 3, 4 and 3 give the same answer as 30, 40 and 30.

Which number comes first on each line?

Score first, then weight: “85, 30” means a score of 85 with weight 30. A line with only a score counts as weight 1.

Is the letter grade the same everywhere?

No — grading scales differ by school and country. The A–F guide here is the common one; check your own institution’s scale before relying on the letter.
