Emergency Fund Calculator
Your emergency fund target from monthly expenses and months of cover.
Emergency fund target
How it works
Target = monthly expenses × months of cover
Worked example: ₹30,000 of monthly expenses with 6 months of cover gives ₹30,000 × 6 = ₹1,80,000. Three months would be ₹90,000 and twelve months ₹3,60,000.
Frequently asked questions
How many months should I cover?
Three months is a common minimum and six months is a comfortable target. A single income or an irregular income argues for the higher end of the range.
Where should I keep the fund?
Somewhere safe and reachable within days — a savings account, not investments that can fall or lock-ins that charge to exit. It is insurance, not growth money.
What counts as a monthly expense?
Essentials only: rent, food, utilities, transport, insurance and minimum loan payments. Holidays and subscriptions you can cancel do not belong in the number.
