Inflation Calculator
What will today’s money cost in the future at a given inflation rate?
Future cost
How it works
Future cost = present cost × (1 + r)^n r = inflation rate as a decimal, n = years
Worked example: ₹10,000 today at 6% inflation for 10 years becomes ₹10,000 × 1.06^10 = ₹17,908. The increase is ₹17,908 − ₹10,000 = ₹7,908.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as the official CPI?
No. CPI is a measured index of past prices; this calculator projects a single rate you choose into the future, so it is an estimate, not an official figure.
What inflation rate should I enter?
A long-run average for your country is a reasonable start — 6% is a common planning figure in India. Try a lower and a higher rate to see the range.
Does it account for salary growth?
No. It only grows the cost. If your income grows at the same rate, the burden stays flat — that comparison is worth doing separately.
