Final Grade Calculator
The final-exam score you need to reach your target course grade.
Score needed on the final
How it works
Needed = (target − current × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight Weights are entered as percentages; the formula converts them to decimals.
Worked example: a current grade of 80% with a final worth 40% of the course, aiming for 85% overall, needs (85 − 80 × 0.60) ÷ 0.40 = (85 − 48) ÷ 0.40 = 92.50% on the final.
Frequently asked questions
What if the needed score is over 100%?
Then the target cannot be reached even with a perfect final. The calculator says so plainly. Lower the target, or check whether the final weight you entered is really that small.
What if the needed score is below zero?
Then you have already reached the target, whatever the final score. The calculator shows 0% needed rather than a negative number, because a negative exam score does not exist.
Should the current grade include everything except the final?
Yes. The current grade is your weighted average over all work done so far, and the final weight is the share of the course the final alone carries. If those two do not cover the whole course, the answer will be off.
