How it works

Maturity = monthly deposit × [((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i)
i = annual rate ÷ 12, n = tenure in months

Worked example: ₹5,000 a month at 7% a year for 24 months gives a maturity value of ₹1,29,154. You invest ₹5,000 × 24 = ₹1,20,000, so the interest earned is ₹9,154. This is an estimate, not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

How is an RD different from a fixed deposit?

A fixed deposit invests one lump sum once; a recurring deposit invests the same amount every month. The RD formula therefore grows each instalment for a different length of time, which is why the (1 + i) factor appears at the end.

Is the rate compounded monthly here?

Yes. The annual rate is divided by 12 to get the monthly rate, and each instalment compounds monthly from the month it is paid in.

Does this include tax?

No. Interest on deposits can be taxable depending on your situation, so the spendable result may be lower than the headline maturity value.
